NLFF's have responded to numerous "kitchen fires" lately, the last being on 7/29/10 night shift. The public is reminded to use caution when attempting to extinguish a fire on the stove in their home. Often residents utilize a dry chemical fire extinguisher or place a lid on a pot to quell the flames, however, do not apply water to a fire involving burning oil. If you are unable to quickly control the situation safely, evacuate the building and notify the fire department by pulling the fire alarm and/or by calling 9-1-1. Also, always have a working smoke detector! The photo below is of the small kitchen fire on 7/29/10 nights.
